Lederhosen optional. Steins encouraged. Mom Said Yes is throwing a full Oktoberfest on Calle Mayor and the whole block is invited.

The inflatables go up at eleven in the morning and stay up until the kids wear out. Inside, the kitchen is pulling pretzels all day with a beer cheese that has ruined plain pretzels for a lot of people. Nobody pays a cover and nobody needs a wristband.

At one o’clock the tables come out for the tournament. Thirty-two duos, one bracket, five hundred dollars to whoever is still standing at the end. Forty bucks buys your pair in and puts a drink in each of your hands. Twenty-six of those slots live on Eventbrite. The other six belong to people who already sit at our bar on Tuesdays.

Three hours later we settle a different argument entirely. Arm out, stein full, elbow locked. Last one who does not shake takes home an authentic collectible stein to put on a shelf and mention constantly.

When things happen

• 11:00 AM – Inflatables open, no charge
• 1:00 PM – Tournament bracket begins, 21 and over
• 4:00 PM – Stein holding, winner keeps the stein
• Open to close – Pretzels, beer cheese, giveaways

Tournament fine print

• Two people to a side
• Forty dollars covers both of you plus a drink each
• Five hundred cash to the winning pair
• Both players 21+, bring ID
• Be checked in by 12:45 PM or your slot goes to someone else

Everything except the tournament is open to every age. Parking is free and the arcade is inside if the sun gets to be too much.
